Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has paid homage to the 17 civilians killed in the Nabërgjan Massacre in Peja. In Nabërgjan, Peja, in 1999, 17 civilians were killed. And from May 1 to 18, a total of 31 civilians were killed, ranging in age from 13 to 95.
Prime Minister Kurti's full post:
"In the first week of May 1999, Serbia's military and police machinery was marching with the genocidal "Horseshoe" project planned in Belgrade by the Milosevic regime for the extermination of Albanians.
On the evening of May 2, 1999, Serbian criminal forces began systematic terror against the Albanian civilian population who were moving in columns from the village of Studime e Poshtme to Studime e Epërme. Within two hours, 116 Albanians were brutally killed. Men and women, old people and children, from most of the villages of Shala and the Vushtrri district. In the morning, the women and children were deported to Albania, while the men were sent to the infamous Smrekonica prison, where they underwent inhuman treatment, beatings and torture.
On May 3, 1999, 25 Albanian men and boys were shot in the schoolyard in Bukosh. Serbian police forces executed them after separating them from a column of residents expelled from the villages of Suhareka.
The Republic of Kosovo cannot forgive nor forget. Only with justice for the victims and punishment for the criminals will the families find peace and peace become sustainable.
The suffering our people experienced can never be erased from our collective memory. Meanwhile, those who fell for freedom will never be forgotten.
On the 26th anniversary of the Studime massacre, we paid homage with the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, the Mayor of the Municipality of North Mitrovica, Erden Atiq, and members of the Assembly of the Republic.
We always remember the martyrs of the Nabërgjan massacre, Studime and Bukoshi, and all those who sacrificed themselves so that we can live freely in the Republic of Kosovo today . /CNA
