War with Ukraine/Trump is considering 500% tariffs on countries that buy energy

The Trump team has prepared a range of options to put economic pressure on Russia in response to Vladimir Putin's continued refusal to agree to end the war in Ukraine, according to an exclusive report from Bloomberg.

Senior US officials, citing anonymous sources, emphasize that Trump has not yet made a final decision, as diplomatic efforts are underway.

Shortly after taking office, Trump publicly declared that he would impose tariffs and sanctions on Russia, characteristically saying that “we can do it the easy way or the hard way.” However, to date these ideas have not been realized.

Kiev has repeatedly called on Trump to increase pressure on Moscow, especially after the US's failure to secure even a temporary ceasefire.

Zelensky's government has accepted US proposals for a 30-day ceasefire and protection of critical energy infrastructure, unlike Russia, which rejected them and intensified attacks on Ukrainian territory.

According to State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce, the US will reduce its role as a mediator in the conflict, noting that the responsibility for ending hostilities now lies entirely with Ukraine and Russia.

Within the US, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said on May 1 that at least 72 senators are willing to vote in favor of a package of devastating new sanctions and tariffs against Russia if Putin does not show a willingness to engage in serious negotiations.

The package even calls for 500% tariffs on imports from countries that buy Russian energy products, according to a bill that has already been circulated on Capitol Hill.
