Christian politicians in Iraq are trying to overturn legislation that bans the import and sale of alcohol.

Officials issued orders on Saturday to enforce the ban. It became law last month despite opposition.

Christian politicians sued saying this was an undemocratic decision.

Public consumption of alcohol is frowned upon in Iraq, a predominantly Muslim country, but it can be purchased in liquor stores or licensed bars.

The law, first passed by parliament in 2016, imposes a fine of up to 25 million Iraqi dinars (£14,256).
