Taliban authorities have made no commitment to reopen schools and universities for Afghan women and girls in the new school year.
This was stated by a senior official of the European Union in Kabul on March 5.
The EU's special envoy for Afghanistan, Tomas Niklasson, said he had heard "no commitment" from Taliban ministers during his meetings on the issue.
"Opening schools and universities to provide quality education to Afghan boys and girls, women and men, is not optional," said Niklasson.
Since the hardline group returned to power in August 2021, Afghanistan has become the only country in the world to deny women education.
Currently, Afghan women and girls cannot get an education beyond the sixth grade or even go to university. In addition to education, Afghan women and girls are also deprived of other rights./ REL
