"Give us back our children" / The harrowing testimonies of the Israeli

On Sunday evening, the families of Israelis who have been taken hostage by Hamas militants, gathered to hold a press conference, to show the situation in which they are.

"My two little girls, they're just babies. They are not even five years old and three years old,” said Yoni Asher, who shared that he had seen the video of the gunmen seizing his wife and two young daughters.


Another father, Uri David, said he spent 30 minutes on the phone with his two daughters, Tair and Odaya, before cutting off contact with them.

"I heard the shots, shouting in Arabic, I told them to lie on the ground and hold hands. I want the whole world to see what I'm going through. We have to bring the children home - and as soon as possible," he confessed.

The families of the missing have pleaded with the government of Israel and the international community to look beyond politics.

“It's not about politics... It's really about humanity. The children are there... please help them,” said Malki Shmetov, whose son is missing.

About 100 Israelis, military and civilians, are reported to have been taken to Gaza following a surprise attack by the militant group Hamas on communities in southern Israel, The Guardian reports. 

A second Palestinian militant group, Islamic Jihad, said it was also holding more than 30 hostages./ CNA
