Moldova: The Russian missiles that hit Ukraine passed through our airspace

2022-10-10 11:54:00, Kosova & Bota CNA

Moldova said on October 10 that Russian missiles aimed at Ukraine passed through its airspace.

This prompted Moldova to call the Russian envoy to the conversation, to ask him for an explanation.

"Three missiles fired by Russia towards Ukraine this morning were launched from Russian ships in the Black Sea. They passed through Moldovan airspace," Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu wrote on Twitter.

"I have instructed the Russian ambassador to come to the meeting to provide an explanation."

Popescu expressed anger at the multiple attacks carried out on Monday morning in Ukrainian cities, after Moscow blamed Ukraine for carrying out explosions on the bridge linking Crimea with Russia.

"Horrified by the numerous rocket attacks on cities across Ukraine, including the capital, Kiev, targeting civilian targets. Russia must stop the killings," he said.

Popescu said his office has been in contact with staff at the Moldovan Embassy in Kiev and said everyone is safe "and taking shelter from these senseless attacks on civilians."

Like Ukraine, Moldova is also a country that emerged from the former Soviet Union, and has a pro-Western Government.

Since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees have taken refuge in Moldova.

Moldova, together with Ukraine, has gained the status of a candidate country in the European Union, in light of the Russian occupation.

Moldova has a breakaway region, Transnistria, which is armed and supported by Russia./REL
