Ceasefire agreement fails to stop bombings/20 killed in Gaza

At least 20 people were killed by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages.

Foreign media reports that the attack took place in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City.

The ceasefire agreement between the two countries was confirmed yesterday evening by negotiators and world leaders, who affirmed that this agreement will enter into force on January 19.

Israel has previously launched airstrikes on the eve of ceasefire agreements coming into effect, including recently in Lebanon, where a round of heavy bombing hit the capital Beirut just hours before a ceasefire there in November.

Under the first phase of the deal, 33 hostages from Gaza will be released in exchange for dozens of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails./CNA
