Britain and France will host defense ministers from various countries tomorrow to discuss military plans for restoring commercial movement in the Strait of Hormuz.
A statement from the British Ministry of Defense says that Secretary John Healey, along with his French counterpart, Minister Catherine Vautrin, will co-chair the meeting with over 40 countries.
This is the first meeting of defense ministers for the multinational mission. Britain announced on Saturday that it was sending its warship HMS Dragon to the Middle East as part of a defense plan to support mine clearance and protect ships.
Last week, France sent its aircraft carrier strike group to the Red Sea as part of planning for a possible mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
Britain and France have led an effort to build a multinational mission to secure maritime transport on the waterways, encouraging other international partners to participate.
A day earlier, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, warned Britain and France against deploying their warships in the Strait of Hormuz. /CNA
