Kosovo's acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said on Wednesday that his party, the Vetëvendosje Movement, will accept the upcoming decision of the country's highest court regarding the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly.
The Constitutional Court of Kosovo is expected to rule on the issue of the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly by August 8th at the latest.
"I think we should wait a few more days, they will let us know what they think will happen after 30 days. I don't know what the solution will be, of course, but we have said that we respect the ruling of the Constitutional Court. It is a great loss that Kosovo does not have an Assembly," Kurti told reporters during a visit to a UCCK clinic.
At the end of last month, the Constitutional Court ordered MPs not to take any decisions or actions until August 8 regarding the formation of the Assembly, while it is reviewing two cases.
Kosovo has plunged into a political crisis as a result of the failure to establish new institutions after the February 9 elections.
MPs have failed in 54 attempts since April 15 to convene a new Parliament - a necessary step for the formation of a new Government - as no party won the majority to govern alone.
Kurti's Vetëvendosje won 48 seats and the other parliamentary parties have refused to vote for the winning party's candidate for Speaker of the Assembly, whose appointment requires at least 61 votes.
On the eve of the Constitutional Court's decision, the country's president, Vjosa Osmani, on Tuesday withdrew the request sent in July to the Constitutional Court seeking clarification on what would happen if the Kosovo Assembly was not constituted by July 26 - the deadline set by the court earlier through a ruling.
She said that the reason for withdrawing her request is the Serbian judge at the Constitutional Court, Radomir Llaban./REL
