Ukraine: About four million people affected by massive power outages due to damage to energy infrastructure.

Nearly four million people in Ukraine have been affected by power outages due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. In many cities and regions, power has been temporarily cut off "to stabilize the situation", Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. The outages affected the country's capital, Kyiv, and the surrounding area, as well as the provinces of Zhytomyr, Poltava, Kerkasi, Kirovohrad, Rivne, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Sumy.

The Ukrainian energy system has "suffered new damage" and has an "electricity deficit amounting to 30 percent of Kyiv's consumption." Electricity supplier DTEK quoted Kiev region governor Oleksiy Kuleba as saying there could be power outages "indefinitely". In the various neighborhoods of Kyiv, there have been power outages lasting several hours during the last few days. These measures are taken to protect networks from overload. Increased missile and drone attacks in recent weeks have reportedly damaged a third of Ukraine's energy infrastructure./ Dw
