Iranian journalists call for the release of their two colleagues

More than 300 Iranian journalists have published an open letter calling for the release of two colleagues who have been arrested for covering the death in custody of Mahsa Aminin.

The letter was published by Iran's reformist daily Etemad on October 30.

Amini, 22 years old, died in custody. The Morality Police had detained her under the suspicion that she did not properly place the veil on her head.

Journalists demanded the release of Niloufar Hamed, who took a photo of Amin's parents hugging in a Tehran hospital, where their daughter lay in a coma.

On October 29, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami, warned that "today is the last day of unrest." The IRGC's warning came as the United Nations expressed "growing concern" over reports of deaths in anti-government protests in Iran./REL
