Harsh criticism in the Parliament of Montenegro against pro-Serbian parties

The disregard and weakening of democratic institutions by the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian parties in Montenegro was severely criticized in the last sessions of the Parliament, asking Prime Minister Milojko Spajic to take a clear stance towards these political forces that are involved in his government. Their continuous demands for dual citizenship, the officialization of the Serbian language, the harsh rhetoric against the independence of Kosovo, the breakdown of relations with Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as many other issues, point to the destabilizing activities of pro-Serbian parties that aim to damage the perspective European country according to analysts.

The pro-Serbian and pro-Russian parties, which are part of the government, are trying with their actions and rhetoric to weaken and ignore the democratic institutions of Montenegro and possibly slow down the European integration of the country, it was said at the session of end of the Montenegrin Parliament.

Their continuous demands for dual citizenship, the officialization of the Serbian language, the harsh rhetoric against the independence of Kosovo, the breakdown of relations with Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as many other issues, point to the destabilizing activities of pro-Serbian parties that aim to damage the perspective European of the country.

These requests were severely criticized by the Montenegrin opposition, which blamed the pro-Serbian parties and especially the Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Mandic, for anti-state activities.

The deputy of the Democratic Socialist Party in the opposition, Danijel ?ivkovic, asked the Prime Minister Milojko Spajic to take a clear stance towards the demands of the pro-Serbian parties that are included in his government.

"With his silence and non-pronunciation of these issues, Prime Minister Spajic is allowing these extreme actions of the pro-Serbian parties. Thus, in all likelihood, this parliamentary majority will move towards changing the constitution and those articles that the pro-Serbian parties want", said Mr. ?ivkovi?.

The Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic responded to these criticisms, demanding that all political actors in the country focus on European integration, where Brussels and a fairly positive report on meeting the standards.

"Without a broad consensus, the Constitution cannot be changed. The opposition must also be included in this consensus. But currently, all political representatives have the duty to focus on the European integration process and prioritize only this topic for which Brussels gave a very positive report," said Prime Minister Spajic.

However, the speaker of the parliament and the representative of the pro-Serbian parties, Andrija Mandiç, repeated that his position on the Serbs' claims in Montenegro are fair and democratic.

"The constitution is not a holy book that cannot be changed. The Constitution is a living matter, as are the laws, and if 2/3 is secured in this parliament, appropriate changes can be made to the Constitution, in accordance with the demands of the Serbs in Montenegro, which are fair and democratic demands", said the speaker of the parliament, Mandi?. .

In this context, the parties of the Bosnian and Albanian minority, which are part of the government, do not support any request that harms the citizenship of Montenegro and the breakdown of relations with neighboring countries.

They, as they said, "remain loyal to the signed agreement in which they pledged to respect the Euro-Atlantic course and develop friendly cooperation with all the countries known to Montenegro"./ VOA
