The CEC suspends two political parties in Kosovo
Central Election Commission of Kosovo.

The Central Election Commission of Kosovo suspended the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Movement for Cooperation, as they did not hold their election assemblies according to the legal deadline.

The decision was made on Wednesday, December 27, at the meeting of the CEC, where it was announced that both parties have an additional 45 days to fulfill their legal obligations.

According to the Regulation on the registration and operation of political parties, the CEC makes a decision to de-register from the register of political parties in Kosovo if the parties do not fulfill their legal obligations even after the additional period of 45 days.

The decision to suspend, according to the chairman of the PSD, Dardan Molliqaj, is "a blackmailing and harmful approach for the political organization".

He said that the PSD Assembly is expected to be held on January 28, and according to him, the Central Election Commission has been informed about this.

"We cannot see the procedure with suspension in any other way than as malice towards the PSD. "Such a formalistic and blackmailing approach is harmful to the political organization and should not be accepted in any way", wrote Molliqaj on "Facebook".

The decision of the CEC comes after the recommendation of the Office for Registration, Certification and Financial Control of Political Parties (ZRCKFPP).

According to the CEC, the deadline for holding the election assembly for the Social Democratic Party was December 15, 2023, while for the political party Movement for Cooperation it was December 8, 2023.

The law on general elections in Kosovo stipulates that all registered political parties are obliged to hold the electoral assembly within six months from the date of party registration and then at least every 48 months./ REL
