KFOR rejects reports that it prevented officials from entering Leposaviq

The NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has refuted the reports of some local media in Kosovo because this mission has blacklisted some officials of the institutions of Kosovo and has prohibited them from entering the facility of the Municipality of Leposaviq.

"KFOR does not interfere with the freedom of movement of individuals in Kosovo. KFOR maintains regular contacts with all the main parties".

The mission has called on all parties to refrain from unilateral statements and actions that could create unnecessary tensions and affect regional stability.

KFOR has over 4,400 military troops in Kosovo and is the third security responder in Kosovo, after the Kosovo Police and the European Union's rule of law mission, EULEX.

There have been similar reports about the ban imposed by KFOR on the entry of Kosovo officials into institutions in the north of the country - inhabited by a majority of Serbs - several times during the year.

Earlier in the week, the visiting American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, said that malicious foreign actors intend to undermine Kosovo's democracy by exploiting ethnic divisions.

Even Ramadan Ilazi, director of research at the Kosovo Center for Security Studies (KKSS), told Radio Free Europe this week that disinformation campaigns are deliberately spread in Kosovo to strain inter-ethnic relations.

"We have campaigns that aim to create distrust - especially among the Serbian community - towards public institutions in Kosovo and that aim to create a kind of perception that in the north [of Kosovo] we have a situation of continuous repression against the citizens there".

Earlier in the week, a DISICON information integrity conference was held in Pristina, organized by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) based in Washington.

Among other things, it is said that misinformation can have a direct impact on society, especially during elections.

Kosovo will hold the next parliamentary elections on February 9 next year./REL
