KFOR and the Army of Serbia with joint patrolling on the Kosovo-Serbia border

The peacekeeping mission of NATO in Kosovo, KFOR, and the Army of Serbia have carried out a synchronized patrol on both sides of the border between Kosovo and Serbia, near the municipality of Podujeva.

"These efforts are part of KFOR's daily mission to support long-term security throughout Kosovo and regional stability," said KFOR's announcement.

Meanwhile, in a separate announcement, the Serbian Ministry of Defense said that a joint patrol was carried out in the area, which it said is the responsibility of the Shushnjak military base, near Kurshumli.

"Information on the situation on the ground was shared and important data was collected for the implementation of the tasks in the future", it was said in the announcement of the Serbian ministry on September 26.

Serbia, which does not recognize Kosovo's independence, calls the border with Kosovo an administrative line. The Serbian Ministry of Defense also said that the Serbian army constantly cooperates with KFOR in the Ground Security Zone.

The Land Security Zone between Kosovo and Serbia is 5 kilometers long and is defined in the Kumanovo Technical Agreement.

After 78 days of attacks, the bombings were stopped on June 10, 1999, with the Kumanovo Technical Agreement, which provided for the withdrawal of all Serbian military and police forces from Kosovo.

The agreement was followed by the adoption of Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council.

Otherwise, KFOR is the third security responder in Kosovo, after the Kosovo Police which is the first and after the EU rule of law mission, EULEX.

The NATO mission in Kosovo is also responsible for the security of Kosovo's borders with Serbia. Meanwhile, the rest of the border line is supervised by the Kosovo Police./ Rel
