Four killed in a knife attack in the US

Four people, including a teenage girl, were killed and at least five others were injured after a man carried out a knife attack at several locations in the US state of Illinois, police said.

The incident happened Wednesday night, police in the city of Rockford said. The police statement said that a 22-year-old suspect was arrested.

American authorities have not announced what the motive of this incident could be.

Rockford, a city with nearly 150,000 inhabitants, is located about 144 kilometers northwest of Chicago.

Among those killed were a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman and two men aged 49 and 22, police said. According to the authorities, three of the victims died at the scene, while one died in the hospital.

"Today we are shocked by yet another act of horrific violence against innocent members of our community," said Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara.
