Russia: We stopped a Ukrainian airstrike in the Belgorod border region

Russia announced on Wednesday that it had halted Ukrainian missile attacks targeting the Belgorod region, while Ukrainian officials announced that Russia had carried out overnight strikes with 13 drones.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its defense systems shot down 18 Ukrainian missiles.

The mayor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said through the Telegram platform that houses in several villages were damaged and at least one person was injured.

The Belgorod region, located along the border between Russia and Ukraine, has often been hit by Ukrainian attacks.

The Ukrainian military announced that it shot down 10 of 13 Russian drones in the Kharkiv, Sumy and Kyiv regions.

According to Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Syniehubov, on the Telegram platform, a building was damaged, but no human casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, the governor of the city of Mykolaiv, Vitaliy Kim, announced on Telegram that three of the drones were destroyed in his region. He reported no damage or casualties.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Tuesday night that he has made changes to his national security cabinet.

In a speech overnight, he said he had replaced Ukraine's National Security Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov with the former head of Ukraine's foreign intelligence agency, Oleksandr Lytvynenko.

Mr. Zelenskyy called this change part of "the reformation of our state system of government".

"In general, I expect the strengthening of our state strategic capacities to anticipate and influence the processes on which national security and our country depend," Mr. Zelenskyy declared./ VOA
