Johnson confirms resignation/ "It's painful"

The Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson, in a statement to the media, has confirmed that he will resign as leader of the Conservatives.

Among other things, Johnson has said that he will stay in office until the autumn so that the Conservatives can choose a new leader to replace him.

" The reason I fought so hard in the last few days to personally resign is not because I didn't want to do it but because this was my job, my duty, my obligation to you.

I am extremely proud of the achievements of this government in getting Britain out of Brexit, in resolving our international relations, in managing the pandemic, creating the fastest Covid vaccine in Europe, the fastest exit from lockdown and supporting Ukrainians in war against Russia in recent months.

In the last few days I have tried to convince my colleagues that it would be strange to change the leader when we are giving so much, when we have one term and when we are only a few points behind in the polls. It's painful not to be able to complete so many projects by myself," said Johnson./ CNA.al
