Talks initiated by Qatar, the United States and Egypt to broker a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas are "constructive" but significant disagreements still remain, the Israeli prime minister's office announced Sunday.
"There are important gaps that the parties will continue to discuss this week in other meetings ," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement.
US Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns and Israeli intelligence chief David Barnea met with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, along with Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel. , the statement said.
The statement said that the talks took place in Europe, without giving a specific location.
President Joe Biden's administration has been trying to broker the release of more than 100 hostages still in Gaza since the Oct. 7 terror attack in Israel by the Islamist militant group Hamas, which rules Gaza.
