President Biden and former President Trump are continuing the campaign for the primary elections, while the results in the states of Iowa and New Hampshire indicate a great possibility of a second encounter between them.

President Joe Biden is campaigning this weekend in South Carolina with the goal of conveying the message that he is loyal to the state that helped him during the 2020 campaign and determined to win back the trust of African-American voters across the United States.

Black voters played a crucial role for Democrat Biden in the 2020 presidential election. But polls show their support for the president has declined.

"You are the reason why I am president. You are the reason why Kamala Harris is vice president, a historic achievement. And you are the reason why Donald Trump is a defeated former president. You're the reason we're going to win and we're going to beat him again," President Joe Biden said during a rally in South Carolina.

During his speech, Mr. Biden was interrupted several times by pro-Palestinian protesters, who were immediately driven away by security forces.

Among other things, Mr. Biden expressed his willingness to take extreme measures to limit immigration at the country's border with Mexico, while lawmakers continue talks on a reform of immigration policies. Mr. Biden said he would close the border "immediately" if such a bill were passed.

But Mr. Trump blamed the Biden administration over the border situation during a speech on Saturday in Las Vegas. He said that if he were to win the White House, Texas would have the full support of his administration to secure the border with Mexico. He said that the influx of immigrants was a disaster and an "invasion" of the country.

"Under Joe Biden, our country is dying. The borders are open, they are a big wound that allows the introduction of drugs, crime and millions of illegal crossings into our country. This has never happened before in our country ," said Mr. Trump.

Former President Trump has expressed displeasure over the fact that his last rival in the Republican camp, Nikki Haley, has refused to withdraw from the race.

At a rally in South Carolina on Saturday, Miss Nikki Haley said her determination to stay in the battle to win the Republican Party nomination is causing despair for Mr Trump.

"Primary elections showed growing support and an unbalanced Donald Trump. He showed nervousness at the podium and talked about revenge ," Ms. Haley said.

She mentioned the age of Mr. Trump, the lack of details of his policies and the legal problems he faces./ VOA
