Iran says Iraq has agreed to disarm Kurdish militants

Iran and Iraq have reached an agreement on the disarmament and relocation of "armed terrorist groups" in the Kurdish region of Iraq, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

"An agreement has been reached between Iran and Iraq, according to which Iraq has committed to disarm armed separatists and terrorist groups on its territory, close their bases, and relocate them to other countries before September 19", said the spokesman of the Iranian Ministry, Nasser Kanaani.

Kanaan did not say where the militants would be relocated. Iraq has not yet commented on this.

Iran has long accused the autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq of fostering terrorist groups that have been involved in attacks against the Islamic Republic.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards have repeatedly attacked their bases in the Kurdish region of Iraq.

In September last year, Iran's Revolutionary Guards attacked militant targets in Iraq's Kurdish region with missiles and drones, killing 13 people, according to local authorities.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks.
