Is Iran preparing for an attack?/ Israel warns of consequences

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said Saturday that "Iran will suffer the consequences if it further escalates the situation."

"Israel is on high alert. We have increased readiness to defend Israel from further Iranian aggression. We are also prepared to respond," spokesman Hagari added in a video statement.

Israel has been on high alert for a possible Iranian attack since two Iranian generals were killed in an airstrike in the Syrian capital Damascus last week.

Iran has blamed Israel for the attack and vowed retaliation. Israel has not commented on the attack.

A number of militant groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and Yemen are linked to Iran and have the ability to strike Israel. Iran also has long-range missiles that can reach Israel.

Israeli leaders have threatened to strike Iran directly if it attacks, and US President Joe Biden has stated that the US commitment to Israel's security is unwavering./ VOA
