Fear of Iranian attack/ Israeli minister and American general "head to head" meeting

Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and US Central Command commander General Erik Kurilla discussed preparations for a possible Iranian attack on Israel on Friday, CNN reports. 

Gallant and Kurilla spoke about "preparedness for an Iranian attack against the state of Israel, which could lead to regional escalation," according to a statement from Gallant's office.

After the meeting, Gallant called Kurilla "a true friend of Israel" and thanked him for US support for Israel. 

“Our enemies think they can tear Israel and the United States apart, but the opposite is true – they are bringing us together and strengthening our bonds. We stand side by side," added Gallant.

The defense minister said Israel was "prepared to defend itself on the ground and in the air" and would respond "in close cooperation with partners." The two met at Israel's Hatzor Air Base near Ashdod in Israel's southern district. /CNA
