Instagram available again in Turkey/ Condition of authorities

Turkey restored access to the Instagram platform after the company agreed to cooperate with authorities in removing posts if they contain elements of certain crimes or "terrorist propaganda," Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu told X Network.

Uraloglu stressed that Instagram's parent company, Meta, has agreed to comply with Turkish laws and ensure the effective removal of posts if they contain elements of certain crimes or "terrorist propaganda".

"As a result of our negotiations with Instagram officials, we will remove the access block as they promised to work together to meet our demands regarding the crimes in the catalog and the censorship imposed on users," he said.

Crimes under Turkish law include acts such as murder, sexual assault, drug trafficking, abuse and torture, Reuters reports.

The nine-day ban sparked protests from users and small businesses that reach customers through the platform.

Turkey ranks fifth in the world for the use of Instagram, with more than 57 million users, after India, the United States, Brazil and Indonesia, according to data from the Statista platform./CNA
