Russian drone attack in Romania/ Rutte: NATO is ready to defend every inch of

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has reacted to the Russian drone strike on a residential building in Galati, Romania.

In his "X" reaction, Rutte states that during communication with Romanian President Nicusor Dan stressed that NATO is ready to defend every inch of allied territory.

He further added that Russia's behavior is a danger to all alliance countries, as according to him the attack on Romania was an indication that their illegal aggression does not stop at Ukraine's borders.

“I just spoke with the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, regarding the Russian drone that hit a residential building in Galati. I assured him of NATO’s absolute solidarity with Romania and expressed condolences for those injured in the incident. I affirmed that NATO is ready to defend every inch of Allied territory. We will continue to increase our readiness to deter and defend against any threat, including from drones. Russia’s reckless behavior is a danger to us all. They continue to target civilians and civilian infrastructure throughout Ukraine. And last night they showed once again that the implications of their illegal war of aggression do not stop at the border. Russia’s war must end, as must Russia’s disregard for civilian security. For our part, we will continue to strengthen our deterrence and defense at home and continue our support for Ukraine as they defend against Russian aggression ,” Rutte’s post said.

A Russian drone entered Romanian airspace on the evening of May 28 and crashed into the roof of an apartment block in the southeastern city of Galati, near the border with Ukraine. The drone hit an apartment on the 10th floor, causing a fire and lightly injuring two people. /CNA
