Ukrainian parliament ratifies €90 billion EU loan

The Ukrainian parliament ratified on Thursday the agreement reached with the European Union for a 90 billion euro loan that will allow Kiev to significantly increase defense spending to counter Russia.

While in Sweden, where he announced the purchase of several dozen Gripen fighter jets, President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Ukrainian lawmakers and his European allies for their support, which he said would strengthen Ukraine's resistance.

The loan agreement was ratified by 298 members of parliament, far more than the 226 votes required for a majority.

The EU gave final approval for the 90 billion euro loan last month after Hungary lifted its veto following the defeat of Viktor Orbán in parliamentary elections. Orbán had openly displayed his close ties to Moscow since the start of the war.
