Over 300 kidney stones were removed from a 20-year-old woman in Taiwan

Doctors in Taiwan have removed more than 300 kidney stones from a woman after she didn't drink water for nearly two decades.

The 20-year-old woman, whose name was not released, presented to Chi Mei Medical Center in Tainan with a high fever and back pain on December 8. When asked about her condition, she told doctors that she barely drinks water and instead hydrates with drinks like tea, fruit juices and spirits for years.

After preliminary checks, doctors saw that the woman's right kidney was very swollen and did an X-ray scan to determine the cause. They were surprised to find that it was filled with more than 300 stones ranging between 0.5 and two centimeters.

After a two-hour procedure called a percutaneous nephrolithotomy, doctors removed the massive amount of stones from her kidney.

Chief surgeon Lin Caiyang listed genetics, water intake and diet as the most important factors for the formation of kidney stones, writes The Mirror./ CNA
