The director of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, said that he spoke on Monday in Brussels with the special envoy of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, about the agreements reached between the two countries so far, in particular the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo.

He announced on the X social network that a team of experts from Belgrade participated in the talks on the formation of the Association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo and the drafting of its draft statute.

"As always, we came to Brussels well prepared!" he wrote.

The proposal of Western officials for the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo was submitted to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vu?i?, on October 21 by representatives of the United States (USA), the European Union (EU) , France, Germany and Italy.

Kurti said for the first time that the draft statute for the establishment of the Association is "acceptable because it is in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo".

The document was also accepted by Serbian President Vu?i?. The Serbian authorities said publicly that it is also in accordance with the Constitution of Serbia and with the agreements previously reached in the framework of the dialogue with Kosovo.

Other Western countries - the US, Germany, France and Italy - supported it.

Part of the discussions, according to him, were the expansion of the situation in the north of Kosovo, the issue of the missing and other topics.

Tensions between Kosovo and Serbia increased significantly on September 24 when the Kosovo Police was attacked by an armed group of Serbs in the village of Banjské in Zveçan in the north of the country, where Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed. Three Serb attackers were killed in the ensuing fighting.

The responsibility for the September 24 attack was claimed by Millan Radoicic, former vice-president of Lista Serbe, the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo that enjoys the support of Belgrade.

Meanwhile, Kosovo and Serbia are part of the dialogue mediated by the EU, for the normalization of relations, since 2011.

The parties have signed many agreements, but not all of them have been implemented./ REL
