Germany, attacks on asylum shelters are increasing

In the past year, the number of attacks on asylum shelters has increased in Germany. In 2022, there were 221 attacks against asylum seekers' shelters, physical attacks as well as material damage. This is an increase of 73% compared to the previous year. These are preliminary data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in response to the request of the Left parliamentary group, which were published by the German newspaper "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung". Despite the significant increase in attacks on asylum centers, the numbers are lower than in the year of the refugee crisis, 2015. That year, 1,047 attacks on centers where refugees lived were recorded.
