Iran's Revolutionary Guards called on the Islamic Republic's judicial authorities on Thursday to prosecute those it says are spreading fake news and rumors about the reasons for the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini while in custody. Her death has sparked nationwide protests.

Earlier today, protesters in Tehran and other cities across the country torched police stations and vehicles, amid growing public anger that has not subsided.

“Kemi kërkuar nga drejtësia që të identifikojë ata që përhapin lajme të rreme dhe thashetheme në rrjetet sociale si dhe në rrugë, e që rrezikojnë sigurinë psikologjike të shoqërisë. Do përballemi me ta me vendosmëri”, thuhej në deklaratë.

Mediat iraniane njoftuan se të premten janë planifikuar të mbahen protestat pro-qeveritare.

"The will of the Iranian people is this: do not spare the criminals ," read a headline in the influential Kayhan newspaper, a hard-line publication.

The protests over Mahsa Amin's death are the largest in the Islamic Republic since 2019. Most have been concentrated in Iran's Kurdish-populated northwest, but have also spread to the capital and at least 50 cities and towns across the country. The police used force to disperse the protesters.

A group of United Nations experts demanded that responsibility be held for the death of the 22-year-old./ VOA
