France mobilizes 7,000 troops for extra patrols after teacher's murder

French President Emmanuel Macron has ordered up to 7,000 soldiers to be mobilized for increased security patrols, his office said on Saturday, a day after a teacher was stabbed to death in an Islamist attack.

France was put on the highest security alert on Friday after a 20-year-old man stabbed a teacher to death and seriously injured two others at a school in the northern French city of Arras.

Macron's office said soldiers would be mobilized until Monday evening until further notice as part of an ongoing operation that regularly patrols major city centers and tourist sites.

The Louvre museum, a major tourist attraction in the French capital, was closed after receiving a bomb alert, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Camille Chaize said, adding that checks were being carried out to determine there was no danger./ CNA
