The FBI announced that former President Donald Trump was hit in the ear by a bullet during the assassination attempt on him on July 13, clarifying the incident after nearly two weeks of confusion and contradiction.

In a statement released Friday evening, the FBI said that "what struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, either whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, that was fired from the gun of the deceased suspect." .

The statement came two days after FBI Director Christopher Wray told a congressional hearing that it was unclear whether former President Trump's wounds were caused by a bullet or other shrapnel.

Earlier on Friday, the former White House physician during former President Trump's tenure disputed the FBI director's statement.

The fact that a bullet grazed former President Trump in the ear and that he narrowly escaped death has become a staple of his election campaign.

Ronny Jackson, the former White House physician during the tenure of former President Trump, stated that: "There is no evidence that he was hit by anything other than a bullet," wrote Mr. Jackson, a close ally of the former President Trump. "FBI Director Wray is mistaken and it is inappropriate to suggest otherwise."

On Thursday, former President Trump took to his social media to criticize the FBI director.

"It was unfortunate that a bullet hit my ear, and hit it hard. There was no glass, there were no shards", wrote former President Trump, adding that: "It is no wonder that the once glorious FBI has lost the trust of America!".

Even the spokesman of former President Trump's election campaign told the Reuters news agency that any other variant that the former president could have been hit by something else was a byproduct of conspiracy theories./ VOA
