Elon Musk: Ready to form a new political party

American billionaire Elon Musk floated the idea of ??founding a new political party this week, potentially intensifying his stance and decision to step down from his administration post.

Amid his continued criticism, Musk posted a poll on the 'X' platform asking his 220 million followers if it's time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the middle 80%.

Noting that 80% of those who responded to his survey supported the idea, the Tesla CEO said in a post on Friday evening: "This is destiny."

Musk later backed a supporter's suggestion to name the new party "America's Party," a title similar to the America PAC (Political Action Committee) he founded last year, which spent $239 million.

Launching a new political party in the U.S. is a huge challenge. While Democrats, Republicans, and some established third parties already enjoy broad access to the ballot, any new party seeking to compete must overcome complex, state-specific requirements to list its candidates.

Musk also appeared to be considering a post proposing reforming one of the major parties "from the inside out" rather than founding a third party, responding with "Hmm."

It remains unclear how committed Musk is to the idea of ??leaving the Republican Party. /CNA
