Missing for 3 days/ USA: The submarine with tourists exploded near the Titanic

The submarine "Titan" with tourists that disappeared in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, near the wreck of the Titanic, is suspected to have exploded.

The site of the explosion is believed to be 487 meters from the wreck of the Titanic. The submarine is thought to have exploded due to pressure.

US Coast Guard Admiral John Mauger said at a press conference that search teams discovered five different pieces of the Titan submarine.

The Coast Guard stated that as a result the 5 passengers on board have died.

The pieces found are spotted in an area where there is no Titanic debris.

It is not yet known what was the time of the explosion, but 9 ships have gone to the scene to find out the details.

At this stage it is unclear which agency will lead the investigation, as there is no protocol for such submarine incidents.

Admiral Mauger said the case is particularly complex because the incident took place in a remote part of the ocean, involving people of different nationalities.

But, having played a leading role in the operation so far, the US Coast Guard is likely to continue the investigation./ CNA.al
