Britain imposes sanctions on two Iranian state agencies

Britain imposed sanctions on Iran's state air agency and shipping agency on Monday. London said the decision comes in response to the transfer of ballistic missiles from Iran to Russia.

State-owned companies Iran Air and Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) will face asset freezes for their role in supplying Russia with weapons for use on the battlefield in Ukraine, Britain has announced.

"Iran's efforts to undermine global security are dangerous and unacceptable," said Foreign Secretary David Lammy. "We call again on Iran to stop supporting Russia's illegal war in Ukraine."

The sanctions will further restrict Iran Air's direct flights to the UK.

Britain also imposed sanctions on the Russian cargo ship 'PORT OLYA-3' for its role in sending military supplies to Russia, it said./ VOA
