The WHO calls the earthquake in Turkey and Syria the worst natural disaster in a century. The tragic balance of the number of victims reaches 50,000.

Three weeks after the devastating earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border region, the death toll has risen to over 50,000 people. According to the count based on the data of the Turkish and Syrian authorities, the magnitude 7.8 earthquake of February 6 has so far caused 44,374 deaths in Turkey and 5,951 in Syria.

WHO: The worst natural disaster in a century

Organizata Botërore e Shëndetësisë (OBSH) e ka klasifikuar tërmetin e 6 shkurtit si "katastrofën më të rëndë natyrore" që prej një shekulli në Evropë.

Ditët e fundit ka pasur disa goditje pasuese të rënda.

Prej tërmetit humbën shtëpitë e tyre miliona vetë. Sipas vlerësimeve të Bankës Botërore vetëm në Turqi dëmet materialeshkojnë në më shumë se 34 miliardë dollarë. Po ashtu sipas Bankës Botërore pritet që si pasojë e tërmetit do të ketë edhe ndërprerje në aktivitetin ekonomik të vendit gjë që do të ketë efekte negative në prodhimin e brendshëm bruto.
