Biden and Trump start the battle in Georgia

The 2024 presidential campaign begins Saturday where the race left off in 2020. Or rather, where it never ended.

President Joe Biden and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will campaign in Georgia. The two candidates have accused each other for weeks of being a danger to democracy, but on Saturday, for the first time this year, they will be in this important state for the election battle at the same time.

There is perhaps no other state where the competition will be more intense than in Georgia for the November 5th general election. Georgia favored Mr. Biden in the 2020 election and was at the center of Mr. Trump's unsubstantiated claims of extensive rigging. He faces criminal charges in this state for trying to interfere with the vote counting process.

Mr Trump is expected to secure the nomination as his party's official nominee on Tuesday, when Georgia, along with Hawaii, Mississippi and Washington hold their primaries.

On Thursday, President Biden delivered his State of the Union address to Congress, where he widely criticized former President Trump, accusing him of endangering democracy, being servile to Russia and sabotaging bipartisan immigration reform.

However, President Biden continues to face backlash from Democrats for his staunch support for Israel in its fight against Hamas in Gaza. That discontent could be reflected in the Georgia polls on Tuesday.

A number of groups in Georgia have launched a campaign urging voters to cast blank ballots on Tuesday instead of voting for Mr. Biden, hoping to send a message to the White House that to review its support for Israel.

Former President Trump is holding a rally Saturday night in Rome, Georgia, a conservative stronghold in the state in the heart of the district of Republican lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, a staunch ally of former President Trump.

President Biden will hold an event in the evening in the Atlanta, Georgia area, where rapidly expanding urban areas are seen as a key element of Democratic hopes in the state.
