Global warming / EU reaches agreement to protect the climate from carbon dioxide

European Union negotiators reached a political agreement on Sunday to reduce the release of carbon dioxide and thus slow the warming of the planet. According to the agreement that will have to be approved by the European Parliament and the European Council, the EU will impose new costs on the fuel used for vehicles and heating buildings, starting in 2027.

Sipas rregullave të Bashkimit Evropian, centralet dhe fabrikat duhet të “blejnë” licenca për dioksidin e karbonit që të vazhdojnë aktivitetin gjatë të cilit prodhohet ndotje. Ky sistem shërben si thelbi i planeve të BE-së për të ulur ndotjen me 55% deri në vitin 2030.

Sipas marrëveshjes së arritur nga negociatorët e vendet anëtare dhe të Parlamentit Evropian, tregu evropian do të reformohet tashmë duke ulur nivelin e ndotjes me 62%.

Sipas këtij plani, do të hiqen nga sistemi 90 milionë “licenca” për karbonin në vitin 2024, si dhe 27 milionë të tjera në vitin 2026.

Gjithashtu gjatë periudhës 2026-2034, BE-ja do eliminojë licencat falas që ua jep aktualisht sektorëve industrialë për t’i mbrojtur nga konkurrenca e huaj. Paralelisht, BE-ja do të vendosë një tarifë kufitare për karbonin, që synon të mbrojë firmat vendase nga konkurenca e huaj.

After 30 hours of talks that began on Friday, the EU agreed on new rules from 2027 for companies that supply fuel to cars and building heating systems.

After European lawmakers had objected to the new rules being imposed on housing, negotiators agreed on several measures that will protect consumers from rising carbon prices.

Also, if fuel prices continue to be high in 2027, the entry into force of the new rules will be pushed back to 2028.

The preliminary agreement will have to receive the official approval of the European Parliament and the European Council./ VOA
