Paris supports Kosovo for EU membership/ Requests the continuation of reforms

France supports Kosovo's application for membership in the European Union, while calling for the country to continue with reforms.

In an interview for the media in Kosovo , the Foreign Minister of France stated that "France supports the European perspective of Kosovo, as well as other countries of the Western Balkans".

France called on Kosovo "to continue the necessary reforms to bring it closer to the European path, especially in the field of the rule of law and the protection of persons belonging to minorities. France will continue to support efforts in this direction."

Furthermore, in the communique of the French MFA, Kosovo, as well as Serbia, is asked to engage "responsibly and constructively in dialogue with the aim of normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina".

This, says France, "is an essential condition for the European rapprochement of the two countries and the stability of the entire region".

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, submitted on Thursday to the Czech Republic - the country that currently presides over the Presidency of the European Union - Kosovo's application for membership in the EU.

Kurti then said that if the non-recognizing five of the EU changed its attitude, it would help in the process of Kosovo's membership in the European family.
