Unusual raid by Italian police / A clandestine reptile farm is discovered

Italian police have warned that some criminals are using exotic and dangerous animals to scare victims, after discovering an "illegal reptile farm" in southern Italy.

During a raid on a palace in Bari, police found a secret room in the basement converted into an illegal reptilarium.

Very dangerous animals were discovered behind a false wall:

2 green anacondas, about 5 meters long, about 60 kg

1 crocodile over 1.5 meters

Burmese pythons, boa constrictors and other types of anacondas

An Asian water monitor, a large lizard with claws and a dangerous bite, was also found.

Authorities said some of these animals are very aggressive and pose a real danger to the public.

According to police, reptiles also serve as a symbol of power and control in the criminal world. The animals belonged to a person with a criminal record, who is currently on the run. /CNA
