"The Economist": A month of bombing in Iran, with heavy blows but

The prestigious magazine "The Economist" has analyzed today that a month of bombing in Iran has had no effect. On the cover of its latest issue, the magazine raises the question: Will Donald Trump escalate the conflict or return to talks?

Even by his own standards, US President Donald Trump has had an unusually turbulent week in the war with Iran. Trump has threatened direct bombing of Iran's civilian energy infrastructure. Although Tehran has not moved, markets have reacted.

Then there was a 180-degree turn, as Trump said he had been briefed on secret proposals for peace talks and backed down.

The Pentagon then announced that it would deploy part of the 82nd Airborne Division. This suggests that escalation remains possible. Amid this uncertainty, the Iranian regime seems unperturbed. Surprisingly, it now appears to have a strategic advantage over its adversaries.

It is true that the Islamic Republic has suffered heavy blows. Many of its leaders, as well as hundreds of civilians, have been killed. Its air defenses have been dismantled, its navy and missiles largely destroyed. And yet the regime is holding on. And the regime’s mere survival is, in itself, a kind of victory.
