"They gave it to us as part of the negotiations"/ Trump reveals the

US President Donald Trump revealed to reporters today the "mysterious" gift he said Iran had given the US as part of the negotiations.

Trump said the gifts were 10 oil tankers that successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil route. The president said the U.S. had engaged in very substantial talks with unnamed Iranian officials and that the movement of oil tankers through the Strait was proof that negotiators were serious.

"They said, 'To show you the fact that we are real and strong and that we are there, we will let you have eight big oil tankers,'" Trump said, adding that the ships sailed through the Strait of Hormuz flying Pakistani flags.

He added that the Iranians also allowed two additional ships “ to apologize for something they said.”  Trump was also asked by reporters if he thought Iran might impose a tariff on ships passing through the Strait.

"They shouldn't be able to, but they're doing it little by little," he said. /CNA
