German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock warned her Chinese counterpart that Beijing's support for Russia has an "impact" on ties between the two countries, her office said.

Germany's top diplomat met in Beijing with her counterpart, Wang Yi, for "strategic dialogue", as Berlin seeks to build better ties with Beijing and engage with the country to overcome key differences.

Baerbock told Wang that "increasing Chinese support for Russia's war against Ukraine has an impact on our relations," according to a statement released by the German Foreign Ministry.

"Essential German and European security interests have been affected," she said.

China presents itself as neutral in the war that Russia launched against Ukraine in February 2022. Beijing has said it does not send lethal aid to either side, unlike the United States and other Western countries that supply Ukraine with arms. .
