Kosovo has 1,586,659 registered inhabitants, according to the final report of the Kosovo Statistics Agency (ASK) for the population census for 2024.
The acting director of KAS, Avni Kastrati, said in a press conference in Pristina that KAS has made the assessment for municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of the country, where the process was mostly boycotted.
He said that KAS estimates that Kosovo has a total resident population of 1,602,515.
The exact number of residents in the four Serbian-majority municipalities in the north of Kosovo is not known, however, during the last voting process there in April, 46,556 citizens had the right to vote, including places where the Albanian community lives.
According to official data from the last population census conducted in 2011, the total number of inhabitants in Kosovo was about 1.7 million. Even at that time, the process was largely boycotted by the Serbs.
The 2024 census shows that the ethnic structure in Kosovo remains almost the same as in 2011, with Albanians making up the vast majority of the population and minorities maintaining a significant presence, KAS said.

The vast majority of residents have declared that they belong to the Islamic faith, while the Orthodox and Catholic communities represent the largest groups of religious minorities, according to KAS.

According to the data, 11,417 people were killed, 1,047 disappeared, 6,682 were injured and 3,312 were imprisoned in the period February 1998 - June 1999.
Meanwhile, 154,272 households suffered property damage during the war.
The value of damages only in the family economy, excluding public institutions, is estimated to be over 5 billion euros, according to the census.
The period of the war is defined from February 28, 1998 to June 11, 1999, says the KAS report.
Kastrati said that KAS estimates that there is underreporting of damage to people and property during the war, "because not all the people who were in the prayer of 1998-99 were present in the 2024 census".
According to the final report, the average age of the population in Kosovo is now 34.84 years old, compared to 29.97 years old in 2011.
The data show that 92.8 percent of residents in Kosovo own their homes, while about 5.3 percent live on rent.
The report found a 26.6 percent decrease in household size in 2024 compared to the last census in 2011.
Now in Kosovo, the average number of persons in a household is 4.33 percent, compared to 5.90 percent in 2011.
These data do not include the number of members of the diaspora, as the process of their registration is still ongoing.
Currently, according to KAS, about 550,000 people are registered in the diaspora.
The population, household and housing census took place in all municipalities of Kosovo from April 5 to May 24./REL
