Ceasefire in Gaza and release of hostages/ Blinken: Talks will resume
US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday that Israel had met its goal of "successfully destroying Hamas" and that talks on a ceasefire and the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza would resume in the days to come. the following.

As Blinken made the comments during his tour of the Middle East, an Israeli attack on a school housing displaced people in central Gaza killed at least 17 people, Palestinian medical officials said.

About 42 others were injured in the attack that hit the Nuseirat refugee camp, according to Awda Hospital, which received the bodies of the victims and the wounded. Among the dead were 13 children under the age of 18, and three women, according to hospital records.

The Israeli army said that the targets of this attack were Hamas militants inside the school, but did not provide any evidence for this. Hamas is declared a terrorist organization by the US and the EU.

Israel has carried out several attacks on schools converted into shelters in recent months, saying they target militants hiding among civilians. These attacks often kill women and children.

Blinken, speaking to reporters in Qatar, which serves as a key mediator between Israel and Hamas, said talks would resume in "the next few days."

"What we need to determine is whether Hamas is ready to engage," Blinken said during his 11th visit to the region since the war in Gaza began a year ago.

The United States hopes to resume talks after Israeli forces killed top Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar last week in Gaza. However, neither side has shown signs of softening their demands in talks that broke down over the summer.

Blinken also announced that the US will help the Palestinians with $135 million, while again calling on Israel to allow more aid to enter the Palestinian territory./REL
