The American ambassador in Skopje, Angela Aggeler, declared on Tuesday that Washington is interested in seeing North Macedonia in the European Union (EU).
Aggeler expressed hope for positive developments in the talks between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, stressing the importance of the success of these negotiations for the future of the country.
"I will say what we have said before in Washington and in Skopje... We would very much like to see North Macedonia within the European Union and we hope that the discussions will be successful and fruitful, because the prosperous future, successful and safe of this country is within the EU, it is in the heart of Europe, where it belongs", said Aggeler.
Ambassador Aggeler made these comments shortly before the start of a lecture with the students of the University of Southeast Europe (SEEUL) in Tetovo.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, who is currently in Brussels, at the EU-Western Balkans summit, has said that "he is going to present the same positions as the country's government" regarding the dispute with Bulgaria. respectively for unlocking the process of membership in the European family.
However, he expects that the new composition of the European Commission (EC) will have additional information from his recent visit to Brussels.
Mickoski added that the current solution is only to unlock the first step, while his government is looking for a long-term solution.
Asked what can be expected in terms of reaching an agreement with Bulgaria, considering that the new government has not yet been formed there, Mickoski said that it is necessary to work with all partners because it is not known when there may be political government in Sofia.
"If this is a bilateral problem with the EU, because that is what we were told for a while, we are ready to talk with the EU and we will talk with everyone in the EU and we will argue our positions, we will we fight, because this is a battle for future generations, it is not a battle for the political survival of this government, we must win this battle, we will give everything to win it, but I don't know if we will win it", he said on Monday Mickoski.
From the Government in Skopje, as a main condition, the amendment of the Constitution is required, for unblocking the negotiations with the EU.
Until now, this process has been bypassed.
The Macedonian side asks the garage from Sofia not to further block North Macedonia.
Meanwhile, on the eve of the meeting in Brussels, the acting Bulgarian Prime Minister, Dimitër Glav?ev, has confirmed the official position of Sofia regarding the membership of the Republic of North Macedonia in the EU.
The Foreign Radio of Bulgaria announced that this issue was discussed in a telephone conversation between Glavchev and the President of the European Council, Antonio Koshta.
"European results cannot be achieved with non-European behavior", emphasized Gllav?ev.
He said that Bulgaria supports the European integration of North Macedonia, but in accordance with the Agreement on Good Neighbourhood, Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries from 2017. The parliamentary majority in North Macedonia currently consists of 78 deputies out of a total of 120 members of the Parliament.
