Terrorist activities are suspected/ 4 people are arrested in the region of

Macedonian police announced that they arrested four people suspected of terrorist activity. The arrests were made in the region of Struga and Gostivar.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Pançe Toshkovski, said that "foreign services" helped by providing information about the activity of the group, which has been under the surveillance of the police authorities for a longer time.

According to the minister, the persons suspected of connection with the terrorist organization ISIS intended to buy weapons, ammunition and explosive devices.

"It is about a cell which tried to recruit other citizens of North Macedonia, while establishing contacts with extremist groups abroad", said Mr. Toshkovski.

The authorities have not provided much information about the group, while the National Security Agency and Minister Toshkovski claim that there was enough evidence based on suspicions that the persons acted "to organize unwanted events in the future which could endanger the security of the country but also of other countries".

The minister said that during the controls, materials written in Arabic and Albanian were found, which implies that it was about members of the Albanian community.

However, the law enforcement authorities say that the accused are not members returned from conflict zones in the Middle East./ VOA
