Russian forces shot down 18 Ukrainian missiles aimed at Russia's Belgorod region on Wednesday morning, Russia's Defense Ministry said.
The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said one person was injured by falling rocket fragments and that buildings were damaged as Russian forces destroyed the rockets.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have not commented on this news.
Ukraine has been conducting airstrikes in Belgorod and two other Russian regions, Kursk and Voronezh, for several months.
About 25 people were killed in the biggest attack in Belgorod earlier this year.
In recent weeks, the authorities of this region have asked residents to temporarily leave Belgorod and the surrounding regions.
On March 19, Russian authorities said that around 9,000 children will be evacuated from Belgorod and the surrounding region after the attacks, which they blame on Ukraine./ Rel
