$100 billion for artificial intelligence in India

An Indian business conglomerate is making a massive investment in data centers to put India at the forefront of global artificial intelligence development by 2035.

Indian conglomerate Adani will invest $100 billion in building artificial intelligence data centers in its country. The amount is planned for 2035, the company explained at a five-day artificial intelligence summit being held in the capital New Delhi.

The investment will include an additional $150 billion in spending, for example, on server manufacturing and building electrical infrastructure. According to a Stanford University study, India last year ranked third in the world in artificial intelligence competitiveness, behind the United States and China.

Artificial Intelligence Summit with 20 Heads of State and Government

The multi-day meeting in New Delhi is attended by 20 heads of state and government, as well as senior executives from technology companies, including Google CEO Pichai and Open AI CEO Altman. India is the world's most populous country and has one of the fastest-growing digital markets. According to organizers, the five-day India AI Impact summit is the first artificial intelligence summit in the region. In the field of artificial intelligence, companies based in wealthy industrialized countries have a particular influence. The summit has previously been held in France, the United Kingdom and South Korea.

The government recently announced that foreign companies using data centers in the country for their global cloud services will not pay taxes until 2047. Google announced in October that it would spend $15 billion on an artificial intelligence data center in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Microsoft and Amazon have already invested billions in the sector./ DW
