Tourism boosts product consumption, customs collect record 1.62 billion euros in

Customs have collected a record amount of more than 1.62 billion euros in the state budget for the first 8 months, exceeding customs revenues for the same period in 2024 by about 55 million euros.

Operational data from the General Directorate of Customs report that for the first 8 months of 2025, 158 billion lek in customs revenues were realized and that compared to the first 8 months of 2024, there are about +5.3 billion lek more.

August 2025 marks a record for Albanian customs with an increase of 65% more than in 2020 and an improvement of 82% compared to 2013, based mainly on good administration, digitalization of customs procedures, risk analysis and efficient customs supervision and control, customs reported.

Consumption of fuel, beer, coffee and cigarettes increases

The increase in revenues was mainly influenced by excise duty, totaling +4.3 billion lek, which came mainly from the increase in the import of Fuel by about +2.2 billion (an increase in the quantity consumed by about 50,137 tons), Cigarettes by +1.5 billion (an increase in the quantity consumed by about 176 tons), Lubricating Oil +67 million and Domestic Alcoholic Beverages by +60 million.

All excise items have a very good performance in revenue compared to the eighth month of 2024, even, according to customs, they are the highest quantities realized since 2013, as a quantity in consumption, the cigarette item is +176 Tons, giving the highest amount of growth over the years, Fuel about +50,137 tons, Beer +2,456 tons and Coffee +211 tons, thus reaching the highest historical levels.

VAT, compared to the first eight months of 2024, has provided about +1.3 Billion Lek more, mainly influenced by: +1.6 Billion Lek Electricity; +602 Million Lek from Cigarettes; +332 Million Metal Constructions; +250 Million Coffee; +227 Million Wood and Other Items.

Customs Duty with +258 Million Lek, an amount affected by the change in the origin of the import of the item General consumer goods with +145 Million Lek, Metal Constructions with +116 Million Lek, and Fruits with +39 Million and Prepared Foods with +30 Million Lek etc.../ Monitor
